By the time you reach 26, you have lived many lives. In my time since leaving the nest I have been broke college grad in a slanted yellow house, wild roommate in an apartment on a hill, first time professional in a shoebox studio, getting it together girl in my first one bedroom and non-stop slumber party best friend in a cinderblock palace.
I have learned a lot with every move. Each new living adventure helping me refine my space and style, bringing me one step closer to creating a home. My most recent move, down the coast 1400 miles to sunny San Diego and bright Spanish-style apartment has been a very different experience then all the rest. For the first time leaving the Gibson estate, I feel like I have created a home for myself.
It is really a difference in how drawn I am to spending time in my space. I’ve always been one to spend the majority of my time bouncing from place to place, from coffee shop to park, with my residence being a place to simply store my things and shut my eyes. This time around I wanted to created a place to live; a peaceful, comfortable, beautiful place to spend my time.
With this move I decided to take the time to pay attention to the details and made conscious decision to make home a priority, investing time and resources into the development of functional space that is easy to maintain with my busy life.
This commitment has paid off in so many ways. I’ve found myself so much more content and relaxed, without the need to constantly seek out somewhere else to be. Do I still love exploring and enjoying the great spaces around me? Absolutely. But I can find the same level of joy just being at home and that, to me, is a great victory.
